Mawi DNA’s CEO was invited to attend and speak at this years SALSA Conference in Australia.

The key initiatives of this conference was to collaborate on innovations of saliva and liquid biosampling technology surrounding applied human health and disease

Key Messages from SALSA conference:
  • Samples are not subjected to room temperature during transit! Key value is stabilizing samples at a wide range of temperatures.
  • High sample yields doesn’t equate to high quality. The volume of saliva collected has no correlation to more gDNA yield.
  • Bacterial DNA Contamination adds substantial costs to NGS workflow. Repeats are Expensive, recollecting and retesting = sunk cost.
  • Whole Genome Sequencing can be achieved at a cheap cost if input sample has high molecular weight & low bacterial DNA contamination.

Salvia collection is the oldest and most common non-invasive sample collection option in the applied Human Health and Disease industry, unfortunately it is not always a reliable option.
